Keep the Faith

As a follow-up to my recent post about the season of “waiting,” the Lord reminded me of the story of David. I used to roll my eyes (to myself) whenever someone attempted to encourage me with the story of David in the context of being patient with God’s timing. “David had to wait like 15 years to become king! You’ve only been waiting a few months.” Okay, these weren’t my encourager’s exact words, but that’s how I interpreted them…

My rebuttal to that (which I kept to myself) was that David KNEW he had a great thing coming. He KNEW he was going to be king eventually. It’s easier to go through a season of waiting if you know there’s light at the end of the tunnel! In contrast, I have NO idea what’s coming to me. So not the quite the same thing here… Anyone else ever feel that way?

The Holy Spirit shed some light on this for me recently—He rebutted my rebuttal. This part is true—while David knew he was destined to be king, I don’t know my future. I don’t know what will happen at the end of (and during) this season of waiting. But here’s the truth—I DO know that if I remain in God, He will shower me and my family with blessings. While I don’t know what those blessings will look like, I know they’ll be better than anything I could conjure up in my own head!

Keep the faith. Don’t give up.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 ESV

“However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him[.]” 1 Corinthians 2:9
